Meals served on board. DAY 2 TUESDAY Arrival, Pozzuoli Upon arrival at Fiumicino airport near Rome, we will be met by our escort and make our way to Pozzuoli (Putuoli) on Bay of Naples, where Paul first entered the mainland of the peninsula. We will pass by the ancient amphitheater and have an overview of the seaport of Pozzuoli and the ancient marketplace to recall a small touch of what Paul may have experienced when he arrived. We will check into our hotel for dinner and overnight. DAY 3 WEDNESDAY Amalfi Coast, Naples, Pozzuoli After breakfast, we will begin our journey with a panoramic tour to Amalfi. The Amalfi Coast, connecting Sorrento with Amalfi, is widely considered Italy’s most scenic stretch of coastline, a of towering bluffs, pastel-hued villages such as Positano and Praiano terraced into hillsides, precipitous corniche roads, luxuriant gardens, and expansive vistas over turquoise waters and green-swathed mountains. Deemed by UNESCO “an outstanding example of a Mediterranean landscape, with exceptional cultural and natural scenic values,” the coast was awarded a coveted spot on the World Heritage list in 1997. In the afternoon on our return we will have a panoramic view of the Bay of Naples where we will be able to observe its seaport and have breathtaking views of Mt. Vesuvius. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight. DAY 4 THURSDAY Pompei, Minturno, Foro Appio After breakfast, we depart for Pompeii, where we will be joined by our local guide to have an archeological journey through the ancient city. Buried under a layer of ashes and pyroclastic flow by a sudden eruption of Vesuvius in 79 CE, the city shows us Roman life frozen in time. It is through understanding the context of this ime period that we can understand Paul’s preaching. People who walked these streets were of the generation of the early apostles,t and Paul’s message had reached there long before the eruption. Paul walked many a Roman city that looked as Pompeii does, and the imagery of the Epistles to those cities is nowhere more easily pictured. We will visit houses, shops, temples, squares, streets and even some of the darker quarters of the city, such as the “Lupanare” (house of prostitutes) and the “Suburbane Thermae“ (with its graphic frescos). As we make our way north, we will rejoin the ancient Appian roadway traveled by Paul, stopping at the partially restored ruins of the Roman village of Minturno. A quiet site, the open plan of the site, together with the lack of other crowds will allow us to reflect on the implications of understanding the setting and people of these suburban areas to ministry of Paul and the Apostles. We continue on for our overnight in Foro Appio in the nearby “Mansio Hotel” A mansio was an official stopping place along a Roman road maintained by the central government for the use of officials and those on official business whilst travelling. In such a place, Paul could have hosted the early believers and drawn some encouragement. Our evening will include a unique experience with a dinner based on some ancient traditional Roman recipes. DAY 5 FRIDAY Foro Appio, Romanfora, Palatine, Colosseo, San Clemente, St. Prisca After a hearty breakfast, we will depart Foro Appio and make our way to the Eternal City. Following some of the high points of Roman history, we will address “how Romans told their story” in “Pompa Processions” and architecture like that of Emperor Trajan’s Column, a jewel of architecture and sculpture. We will begin our walking tour along the Via dei Fori Imperiali and observe the ruins of the Imperial center of Rome. Other important edifices, like the Forum of Trajan, the biggest and most splendid of markets of its time, became the forerunners of our modern malls and commercial complexes. They offered to the Roman citizen the full array of goods of the Roman world. We will view the Capitoline Hill, the former political and religious center of the town, which today is the seat of the Municipality of Rome. The stairway opens to the Piazza del Campidoglio, amagnificent result of a project by Michelangelo, built around a copy of the most famous equestrian statue world, that of the stoic Emperor Marcus Aurelius. Behind Piazza del Campidoglio a natural terrace will offer us the best panoramic view of the valley of the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill. From the Forum we can view the Palatine Hill. Here is the home of the mythical Remus and Romulus who is said to have founded the town in the year 753 BCE. We will view the Mammertime Prison and our visit to the Arch of Constantine, will remind us of the victory of the emperor over Maxentius in the 4th century CE that gave rise to the legalization and later adoption of Christianity. Our visit to the city center will end at the Colosseum, an everlasting symbol of the greatness of Rome and the stage for the historical fights of the gladiators where thousands of people and animals perished. After a break for lunch, we will visit the Basilica of San Clemente. Clement was an early Roman convert to Christ, and we will take this opportunity to talk about the people that were responding to the first wave of the Gospel in Rome. We will be reminded of the early companions of Paul, traveling to the Aventine Hill to the traditional home of Priscillla and Aquila, (based on a C5th CE document) now located below the Church of Santa Prisca. After our visit, we will make our way to our hotel for dinner and overnight. DAY 6 SATURDAY Vatican Museums, St. Peter's Basilica, Rome Sights This morning we will be overwhelmed by the art and beauty found in our visit the Vatican Museums. Your guide will show you the Apartments of Julius II, splendidly decorated by Raphael and his assistants, and then the Sistine Chapel, where you will admire one of the highest masterpieces of art: the Genesis and the Last Judgment by Michelangelo, that have gained their original splendor after the latest restorations. Leaving the Sistine Chapel and going down the Royal Stairway, projected by Bernini, the guide will conduct you to the Basilica of St. Peter which gathers inside 2000 years of history and famous works of art such as the Pieta by Michelangelo. The visit ends at St Peter’s Square. This afternoon we enjoy some leisure time…. Have lunch at Trevi Fountain, walk on Condotti Street in the fashion district of Spanish Steps, visit Piazza Navona or the Panteon… Return to hotel to relax before a Farewell dinner. DAY 7 SUNDAY San Paola Alla Regola, Tres Tabernaes, Saint Paul's Outside the Walls With yesterday’s sketch of the Roman world and its imperial center in mind, we begin the day following the steps of St. Paul, recalling both his first and second visits to the city, as well as setting the execution in both geography and history. We will begin our visit the Insula di San Paolo alla Regola, an important possible place for Paul’s first visit and house arrest in about 62 CE. This place references the early belief that “Paul took a rented horreum” where he could likely invite, teach and comfort the small but growing Christian community. From this possible site of Paul’s outreach we will travel to the “Abbey of the Three Fountains” – the place of Paul’s martyrdom. We journey next to the Basilica of “St. Paul Outside the Walls” on the Via Ostiense, the resting place for the body of Paul. After recalling the work of the Apostle Paul, we will continue to the northern end of the ancient Via Appia, to visit the Catacombs of Santa Domitilla. Early Christian art and history are preserved below ground at these early burial and memorial places, with some markings suggesting celebration of the anniversaries of Christian martyrs (following similar Roman customs). We will board our bus and time allowing continue our Roman visit at Basilica of San John di Lateran, which became among the most important Christians Churches of Rome. When Constantine opened the Roman world to Christianity, his apparent conversion was symbolized by the donation of a significant family property for this Basilica. The important Lateran Baptistery reminds us of the many early converts to the faith, and the process of moving it from a rogue influence to a sponsored and ordered faith. Dinner and overnight at our hotel. DAY 8 MONDAY Rome, USA We will be taken to the airport for our flight home. We will cherish the memories of Paul the Apostles life that changed the course of man. Day by Day POST-TOUR: NORTHERN ITALY DAY 1 MONDAY Rome, Assisi, Florence This morning we will go through the Umbrian green hills covered in olive groves and vineyards to reach Assisi. Upon arrival in Assisi, meet your local guide and start an unforgettable walk through the narrow streets of the ancient town which sweeps the flanks of Monte Subasio. Reboard our bus and continue to Milan, Italy’s fashion and business capital. DAY 5 FRIDAY Bath, Bristol, Oxford After a short drive from Bath, we come to the busy city of Bristol, home of William Penn, a Quaker and the founder of Pennsylvania. We will see the New Room, the first Methodist chapel, the home of Charles Wesley, and Hanham Mount, where John Wesley preached some of his open-air sermons in 1738. We will also view the famous orphanages established by George Mueller (now a technical college). In the afternoon we arrive at Oxford, where we’ll have a guided tour of the city and university, including Christ Church from which John Wesley graduated. We’ll visit the spot outside Balliol College where three heroes of the English Reformation (Latimer, Ridley and Cranmer) were burned at the stake. We’ll also view “The Kilns,” the home of C.S. Lewis. DAY 6 SATURDAY Oxford, Scrooby, Austerfield, Epworth, York Today we travel north into Nottinghamshire, stopping first at Scrooby, the “Birthplace of the Pilgrims.” Here, in 1606, dissatisfied with the corruption and lax nature of the Church of England, some religious separatists broke away from the church and its head, King James I, to commit themselves to a simpler way of life based on the teachings of the Bible. We also visit nearby Austerfield, home of William Bradford, America’s greatest Pilgrim Father. Eventually Bradford and Brewster, along with a company of fellow Pilgrims, set sail for America. Next, we travel to Epworth and the birthplace of the founders of Methodism. Samuel and Susanna Wesley lived in Epworth for 39 years, and raised here their 17 children, including John and Charles. We’ll visit their home, the Old Rectory, and the parish church where Samuel ministered. Next, we arrive at York where we will tour the majestic York Minster, which dates from 1220, and see other fascinating sights of this ancient city. DAY 7 SUNDAY York, Durham, Lindisfarne, Jedburgh, Edinburgh Driving north from York we come to Durham and view the ancient cathedral. Next, we have a photo stop at picturesque Lindisfarne, the “Holy Island,” where a monastery was established in 635 A.D., soon after Christianity came to Britain. Crossing the border into Scotland, we come to the lovely village of Jedburgh, and view the remains of its beautiful church, founded in 1108 by King David I of Scotland, and the home of Mary Queen of Scots. Next, we visit the remains of Dryburgh Abbey, beautifully nestled in a secluded loop of the River Tweed. Christianity was established here by missionaries in 600 A.D., and the abbey was built in 1150. Here we can view remarkably well-preserved glimpses of medieval monastic life. Dryburgh is the burial place of the well-known author, Sir Walter Scott. Then onto Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland. DAY 8 MONDAY Edinburgh Today we tour the historic city of Edinburgh, home of the Scottish Reformation. We visit 900-year-old St Giles Church, “the birthplace of Presbyterianism,” where John Knox was minister for many years. We also visit John Knox’s home. At the top of the Royal Mile we come to Edinburgh Castle, a military fortress since 900 A.D., situated atop a volcanic crag. The oldest structure in the castle, tiny St. Margaret’s Chapel, was built ca 1100 A.D. It was in Edinburgh Castle that Mary Queen of Scots gave birth to King James VI of Scotland, who became King James I of England, uniting the crowns of England and Scotland. In 1611 James I authorized the English version of the Bible, now known as the “Authorized Version” or the “King James Version.” After our tour of the Castle we continue along the Royal Mile to Holyroodhouse, palace of Mary Queen of Scots. DAY 9 TUESDAY Edinburgh, St. Andrews This morning we drive across the Firth of Forth, past the picturesque fishing ports of Fifeshire, and on to St. Andrews on the northeast coast of Scotland. St. Andrew is the “patron saint” of Scotland, and the “Cross of St. Andrew” is the flag of Scotland. It was in St. Andrews that George Wishart, under whose ministry John Knox was converted, was burned at the stake for preaching the gospel. We will visit the remains of the cathedral, which was begun in 1160 and took over 150 years to complete. During the Scottish Reformation John Knox preached a fiery sermon in St. Andrews parish church, whereupon the congregation went immediately to the cathedral and destroyed many valuable objects and furniture, which they saw as relics of “popery.” We also view the ancient St. Andrews Castle, perched on a cliff overlooking the North Sea. We will also visit the most famous golf course in the world, “The Royal and Ancient.” DAY 10 WEDNESDAY Edinburgh, London, New York This morning we fly from Edinburgh to London, where we board our flight home. *The trip will take place in case of a group of 16 people * * The route, as well as the order of visiting places, may be changed due to quarantine restrictions, as well as for safety reasons or due to the weather, road repair work etc. Reviews

Pope Nicholas IV laid the cornerstone for the Cathedral of Orvieto in 1290, dedicating it to the Assumption of the Virgin. Orvieto served as a Papal residence through the Middle Ages, Pope Clement VII being one of the last to stay in Orvieto in 1527. Here, the Feast of Corpus Christi is celebrated, marching from the Duomo. Finish your day by checking in to your Assisi hotel for dinner and an overnight stay. (D) DAY 3 This morning, wake up to the atmospheric sounds of chapel bells, cobblestone footsteps and a tangible spirit of St. Francis preserved within the walls of this holy town. In the morning, you will visit the lower city. The Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels stands at the foot of the hill of Assisi over the Porziuncola, Saint Francis’ Church, given to him by the Benedictine monks. The Church and Convent of St. Damiano is where, in 1205, St. Francis received his calling to “Rebuild My Church.” St. Claire would later lead her Order of the Poor Ladies from here until her death in 1253. You will have time for private devotion and leisure before returning to your hotel for an overnight stay. Dinner is on your own tonight. (B) DAY 4 After breakfast, you will walk to the Papal Basilica of St Francis, the mother church of the Franciscan Order and the burial place of St Francis. This basilica, which was begun in 1228, is built on the side of a hill and comprises an Upper and Lower church. These are decorated with numerous frescoes by late medieval painters including, Giotto. Celebrate Mass here. Continue your guided pilgrimage of the town’s highlights featuring the Basilica of St. Clare, where you can kneel before the famous crucifix from which Jesus spoke to St Francis. This afternoon, travel to Rome and enjoy a visit to the Forum and the Colosseum, once the heart of ancient Rome and a place of martyrdom for the early saints. Explore the romance of Rome as you stop at the famous Trevi Fountain. Legend says those who toss a coin into the fountain will one day return to Rome to toss another into the waters of Trevi. Check into your Rome hotel for an overnight stay. (B) DAY 5 Enjoy a guided tour of the Vatican’s Museums and Sistine Chapel. Built by connecting portions of the old papal residence with newer structures, the museum houses a world-renowned collection of art and antiquities. Michelangelo painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel between 1508 and 1512 and later painted The Last Judgment between 1535 and 1541 for Popes Clement VII and Paul III. The primary function of the chapel is the Papal Conclave, providing the place where the College of Cardinals of the church gathers to elect a new pope. Then, walk through St. Peter’s Basilica and celebrate Mass here. The present structure completed in 1590 was built over the Byzantine and Middle Ages structures that marked the tomb of Saint Peter. There are more than 100 tombs within the basilica, including most recently Saint John Paul II. Finish the day at the Pantheon, built by Marcus Agrippa during the reign of Augustus (27 BC to 14 AD). Emperor Hadrian rebuilt it around 126 AD. The building was given to Pope Boniface IV who converted it into a church - Saint Mary and the Martyrs (Santa Maria Rotunda). Mass continues to be celebrated here. Dinner is on your own tonight. (B) DAY 6 After breakfast, enjoy the opportunity to join in prayer with Pope Francis and receive his greeting, blessing, and prayers. Begin your afternoon with a visit to the Archbasilica of Saint John Lateran. Six popes are entombed here. Next door is the Holy Staircase (Scala Santa), brought from Pilate’s Palace in Jerusalem by Saint Helena in the 4th century. Climbing the stairs on your knees is a devotion that many pilgrims perform, and a plenary indulgence is granted for completing this feat. Next, is the Basilica of Saint Lawrence Outside the Walls (San Lorenzo). Saint Lawrence was one of the first seven deacons of Rome, martyred in 258. The church is built next to catacombs that lead down to his grave. The relics of Saints Justin Martyr and Stephen are also enshrined here. Continue your pilgrim journey to the Basilica of Saint Mary Major (Maria Maggiore). This is the largest Marian church in Rome. Its construction began after the Council of Ephesus in 431 proclaimed that Mary was the Mother of God. Saint Jerome, translator of the Bible into the Latin Vulgate, is buried here. Celebrate Mass in one of the churches here. Dinner is on your own tonight. (B) DAY 7 This morning, you will begin your day at the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls. The present structure stands over the place where Constantine built the first church over Saint Paul’s grave. The church features a portrait of every pope who has served the church, with the face of Pope Francis I illuminated as the present pontiff. Step beneath the surface into the Catacombs of Callixtus, built along the Appian Way. Here, sixteen popes from the 2nd through 4th centuries were interred, though they have been removed to various churches over the centuries. San Sebastian Outside the Walls is another of the seven Pilgrimage churches built over the Catacombs of Saint Sebastian. The remains of Peter and Paul were temporarily protected here during the Valerian Persecution of 258. Our seventh and final pilgrimage stop is the Basilica of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem. Saint Helena brought Passion relics here, and the floor was covered with soil from Jerusalem. Relics here include the index finger of Thomas that touched the wounds of Christ after His resurrection and a piece of the Good Thief’s Cross. Those who want to complete the seven-church pilgrimage as declared by Saint John Paul II in 2000 can continue to one more stop at the Shrine of Our Lady of Divine Love. Here, a pilgrim pursued by dogs appealed to Our Lady and she intervened for his safety. Pilgrims began to frequent the site and a chapel was built here in 1745. Celebrate Mass in one of the churches. Dinner is on your own tonight. (B) DAY 8 Return home with memories of the people and places of Assisi and Rome, or continue with the extension to San Giovanni Rotundo.
