Cabin location matters more than cabin type. A cheap balcony room at the front of the ship can mean motion sickness and noise from connecting cabins — problems that have nothing to do with price and everything to do with position. Before booking: ask specifically about deck location, whether it's a connecting cabin, and what's included vs. extra (specialty dining, excursions, gratuities). This is exactly the kind of detail that's invisible on a booking website and obvious to anyone who's booked hundreds of cabins on the same ships.

For cruises: 6–12 months out gets you the best cabin selection and pricing — itineraries open 12–18 months ahead. For all-inclusive resorts: 4–6 months is usually enough. For anything during school holidays or major season (summer, winter break) — the earlier the better, since family-friendly rooms sell out first. The real answer: tell us roughly when you want to go, and we'll tell you if you're early, on time, or need to move fast — instead of guessing.

Nothing is wrong with you — you're missing a decision-maker, not motivation. Most people don't fail at planning because they don't care. They fail because there are 40 micro-decisions (which neighborhood, which cabin, which season, which airline) and no one to tell them which ones actually matter. Hand someone the three real choices that matter — budget, dates, destination — and they can decide in a single conversation.

Same price. Cruise lines set the fare — an agent doesn't mark it up. The difference isn't price, it's what comes with it: cabin upgrades, onboard credit, priority boarding, and someone to call when a date changes or a flight is delayed — group perks that simply don't exist if you book direct on the website. If two people pay the exact same amount and one gets $200 of onboard credit and a better cabin for free — that's the actual difference.

The five most common regrets: 1) Booking 7 nights for a first cruise when 4–5 would have been a better introduction. 2) Picking a cabin by price without checking deck position — front and back move more than the middle. 3) Overbooking paid specialty restaurants before realizing the included dining was excellent. 4) Not booking popular excursions early enough — they sell out fast. 5) Packing for the wrong climate on multi-port itineraries. Every one of these is avoidable with someone who already knows the answer before you ask the question.

Reviews and photos are both unreliable in the same direction — everyone posts the best five minutes of their trip. What actually tells you the truth: which floor the room is on, how far the 'beachfront' hotel actually is from the beach, and whether the neighborhood is 5 minutes or 40 minutes from what you came to see. That's the difference between googling a destination and having been there. We don't recommend anything we haven't personally seen or vetted directly with someone who has.
