Your wintery Advent cruise begins in Vienna, where, after embarking, you can explore your AMADEUS ship and join the cruise director for a Welcome Cocktail in the Panorama Bar. This is followed by a Welcome Dinner. Your ship remains in Vienna overnight.

Enjoy exploring wintery Vienna today! A morning city sightseeing tour in a comfortable bus takes you past the most beautiful sights of the Austrian capital. In the afternoon, you have the opportunity to view the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace, as well as to visit the traditional, romantic Christmas market in front of the palace. Here, the pervasive pre-Christmas atmosphere and the aromas of lebkuchen (gingerbread) and roasted almonds combine in an unforgettable, authentic Advent experience. In the evening, we recommend that music lovers attend the atmospheric “Sound of Vienna” concert, which will present a kaleidoscope of Viennese classical music.

December 14 - MELK / EMMERSDORF

In the morning, your floating premium hotel reaches the UNESCO World Natural Heritage region of the Wachau. Your ship docks in Melk/Emmersdorf, where you can join an excursion to Melk Abbey. At the end of the excursion, defy the weather and join us for a mug of warming glühwein (mulled wine) on board. The rest of the day is spent on board, where you will have a wonderful view of the passing winter landscapes as your cruise ship travels towards Passau.

December 15 - PASSAU

During breakfast, arrive in Passau, also known as the “City of Three Rivers”, situated at the confluence of the Danube, Inn and Ilz Rivers. In the morning, enjoy the romantic old town with its historic buildings during the course of an optional guided walk. The afternoon is a perfect time to visit the traditional Passau Christmas market. Early this evening your ship will depart this lovely city and head towards Regensburg.

December 16 - REGENSBURG

A full day is spent in festively adorned, historic Regensburg. This magical destination, where time seems to stand still, is best explored during a morning optional guided sightseeing walk. After lunch, explore on your own or opt to join an excursion to the Christmas market in the royal Thurn and Taxis Castle. Revel in the festive pre-Christmas atmosphere filled with the aroma of lebkuchen (gingerbread) and roasted almonds, and stalls filled with local handicrafts. The captain invites you to join him at an elegant Gala Dinner onboard, while your ship continues its journey later this evening.

December 17 - ROTH TO NUREMBERG

After lunch, you arrive in the Bavarian town of Roth, where the city tour of Nuremberg starts. The tour will take you to the most significant monuments and sights in picturesque Nuremberg. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the romantic Christmas market and taste the world-famous Nuremberg lebkuchen (gingerbread) before returning to your ship, which will be waiting for you in the Nuremberg harbor. Your ship remains here overnight.

Day 9 - Cork, Cobh, Blarney
Depart England on your flight to Cork, Ireland. Our representatives will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your Irish bus as we head for Cobh. Here, you will visit the Heritage Center. From this port, between 1845 and 1860, that 2.5 million people sailed to America. If you had an ancestor who came from Ireland to America, chances are they departed from this very place. Find your family name on the archived passenger lists. You can enjoy the multimedia exhibition and the railway station that has been completely refurbished in the style of the era. Visit Blarney Castle and Blarney Woollen Mills Shop. At the Castle of Blarney you will see the fabled Blarney Stone. Legend says that those who kiss the stone acquire a gift of eloquence. Check into your Killareny area hotel for a two-night stay. (B, D)

Day 10 - Ring of Kerry, Waterville, Muckross House
Delight in some of the most spectacular scenery as you travel the Ring of Kerry. Pause at the seaside village of Waterville. Here Charlie Chaplin owned a summer home, and Payne Stewart was Club Captain of the local Golf Course. Visit the 19th century Muckross House. You will enjoy this magnificent Victorian mansion that is considered one of Ireland’s leading stately homes. You will experience the elegance of the day when you see the elegantly furnished rooms. Downstairs, however, reveals the working conditions of the servants employed in the house. (B, D)

Day 11 - Adare, Rock of Cashel, Dublin
Enjoy the beauty of the thatch roofed streets of Adare. The church here has a Norman Castle keep at it’s center. See the Rock of Cashel, the traditional seat of Irish kings. Here St. Patrick is thought to have converted the King of Munster. The present ruins are from structures built in the 12 and 13th Centuries, during the Norman era. Continue on to Dublin for dinner and your two-night stay. (B, D)

Day 12 - Dublin
We begin our journey this morning with a stop at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The church was transitioned from a Catholic church to the Church of Ireland over the centuries. Jonathan Swift, author of Gulliver’s Travels and a critic of British rule was a pastor here. John Wesley spoke and administered communion here on one of his numerous visits to Ireland. Take a walking tour of Trinity College. Founded by Queen Elizabeth I in 1592, it is the oldest college in Ireland. We’ll visit the Old Library here and see the Book of Kells, an ornately illustrated Bible produced by Celtic Monks around 800 AD. Enjoy lunch at the Church, a pub that was originally a church Wesley preached at on his first visit to Ireland. Enjoy an afternoon to explore and shop on your own as you walk along the Liffey River or visit the various museums. (B, D)

Say farewell to Ireland this morning as you return home with memories of the people and places of England and Ireland!
